Sidhu now heads district Kapurthala. “We have learnt that he is now the DC of Kapurthala, but the fact remains that he contested elections, and indulged in political activities, for which he remained suspended for many months. Such an officer should not have been given any election-related duty. We don’t expect free and fair elections under his supervision,” said Surinder Singh Kishanpura, organizing secretary of SAD (Panch Pardhani), who submitted his complaint to Justice (Retd) H S Brar, chief commissioner, gurdwara elections, here on Thursday.
Sidhu, the then additional secretary, health, had contested SGPC elections from Dirba constituency as an independent candidate. The then media reports had stated that Sidhu was extended support by SAD general secretary Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, over SAD’s official candidate.
However, the then PCS officer lost the elections and was suspended by the government for a few months on charges of not seeking official permission for contesting the polls.
