Paramilitary forces deployed in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar over Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib

Chandigarh: As per information paramilitary forces have been deployed in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar cities of Punjab amid protest over the beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has called an emergency meeting of cabinet ministers on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing protest by several Sikh groups in Punjab.

Indian home minister Rajnath Singh yesterday called up the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as several major cities remained close amid protests.

Media reports have quoted state’s intelligence wing information to report that protests were on at 162 Gurdwaras, 59 key locations on the Amritsar-Delhi highway and 103 locations on state highways along which trucks routinely ferry commodities such as crude oil, acid and metal.

Times of India (TOI) quotes an intelligence wing report saying that protests are being led by women sarpanchs, head granthis, taxi unions and college students.
