October 9, 2014 | By

Chandigarh: A Ludhiana resident has moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to interrogate former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant in custody to obtain information about drug smugglers and drug-paddlers in Punjab.

“Someone has filed a petition in the high court seeking indulgence of the honorable court to obtain all information about drugs and drug smugglers of Punjab from me. He has demanded that I should be subjected to custodial interrogation to obtain names of drug smugglers which, incidentally, were also there in the 2007 list given by me to the CM Punjab” said Shashi Kant.

“Instead of petitioning that it is malicious and not maintainable besides being frivolous, which it certainly is; I have requested the court to grant me time to file my reply giving out lot of relevant information to the court” he added.

The High Court on Tuesday (Oct. 07) allowed former Shashi Kant’s request to grant him time to file a detailed reply giving out information to the court about drugs smugglers in Punjab.

The court headed by justice Naresh Kumar Sanghi is currently dealing with a petition filed by Ludhiana resident Razaudin Saifi. Justice Sanghi ordered: Learned council for the respondent prays for time to file reply. In the interest of justice, adjourned to February 3. In the meantime, reply be filled with an advance copy to the learned counsel opposite.

Saifi had moved the Ludhaina court last year submitting that Kant, being former senior IPS officer, had detailed information about the Punjab drug racket going on in Punjab and the modus operandi of the drug smugglers but he was reluctant to reveal the names to the some reasons. Hence, Saifi argued, Kant should be subjected to custodial interrogation to bring out details. But the Ludhaina court had dismissed his petition. Hence Saifi had moved the High Court against Ludhiana court’s decision.
