Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab (September 08, 2013): As per certain media reports dated September 07, 2013 the Punjab Police has arrested some Sikh youth for allegedly ‘planning’ assassinate leaders associated with November 1984 Sikh massacre.
As per media reports Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Gurmeet Singh Chouhan claimed that the youths aged between 21 to 25 were from Peerjain village of the district.
The SSP claimed that with the arrest, the police have succeeded in thwarting an attempt to revive ‘terrorism’ in the state.
Those arrested are Karamjeet Singh, Sarwan Singh, Jatinder Singh, Labh Singh, Dharam Singh, Rana Partap Singh and Kashmir Singh, he said, adding that most of them belonged to border district of Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran in the state.
Police has claimed that they have also recovered .30 bore, .9 MM and .32 bore pistols along with several round of ammunitions from their possession.
SSP Chouhan reportedly said that the youths were getting funds from their accomplices settled in New Zealand, UAE, Uttar Pardesh and Bihar.
The police has claimed that these persons were in contact with each other through social networking site Facebook.
On the other hand these arrests are being viewed as part of police’s practise of targeting Sikh youth and creating a havoc of revival of militancy in Punjab.
