Chandigarh: Top leaders of the Congress party from Punjab reportedly met Sonia Gandhi in Delhi yesterday (March 03). The separate meetings with Sonai Gandhi by Lal Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Capt. Amarinder Singh meetings came in wake of an upcoming revamp of the Punjab Congress unit.
As per reports Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Lal Singh met Sonia Gandhi at the Parliament House earlier in the day, while Capt. Amarinder met Sonia Gandhi in the evening at her residence.
The announcement on Punjab unit of Congress is expected in coming days.
Senior leaders reiterated that while Lal Singh was, in preliminary discussions, seen as someone who could take everyone along, the party wanted to take Capt Amarinder on board on the matter, considering he was the one who earlier led the campaign for the replacement of incumbent state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa.
“The party will like to take Amarinder Singh’s views into consideration on this issue,” The Tribune quotes a ‘source’ as saying.
As the state is heading for assembly elections in 2017 inter-groups of Congress leadership are trying to turn every card into their favour to secure overpowering say in revamped Congress unit.
