Punjab: Farmers’ body objects to Banks’ move to publish photos of debt ridden farmers of Punjab in newspapers

New Delhi (June 12, 2014): Accusing the union government of victimizing farmers to control inflation, Bhartiya Kissan Union Rajewal asked union finance minister Arun Jaitly that the farmers are being forced to be trapped in debit by giving them low prices of their agriculture productions.

He strongly condemned the policy of Banks, which are publishing photographs of debit ridden defaulter farmers of Punjab in newspaper. “It is very disgusting and defamatory. It should be stopped”, he added.

While meeting Jaitly to hand over a memorandum, kissan leader Balvir Singh Rajewal told him, in order to control the inflation, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is fixed very low while the expenditures have increased many folds in last some years.

“Farmers are falling prey to the Arhtiyas and committing suicide due to huge debit. We demand that a farmer income commission should be formed to help maintaining farmers’ income to a surviving level”, he requested Jaitly.
