Bathinda: For the first time since past several years the civil administration of Punjab government has openly participated in the activity conducted by Dera Sauda Sirsa (DSS). The instance is seen as one of its kind since the mass uprising of the Sikh sangat against the DSS cartel a decade ago.

As reported by the media sources senior officials from civil administration here on Wednesday took part and carried out a tree plantation drive organized by DSS workers. The reports published in a Punjabi vernacular named “Punjabi Tribune” stated that Bathinda Deputy Commissioner  Diprava Lakra inaugurated the tree plantation drive in the district. The report further hints that the move is aimed at facilitating the entry of controversial DSS chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim into Punjab.

The deserted branches of the Dera Sauda Sira cartel in Sangrur district of Punjab are reportedly being renovated pointing towards the revival of the cartel in the Sikh stronghold. Even the Dera branch at Salabatpura town in Bathinda district is under renovation.

The Amarinder Singh lead Congress, after taking the charge of Punjab government, had provided state security blanket to major DSS branches located in the Malwa belt and now through its bureaucrats Amarinder Singh government is trying to revive the fortunes of DSS which forms a major chunk of electoral votes. The experience of past establishes that the dera enjoys state patronage for its activities against the Sikh faith.

It is pertinent to note that in 2007 DSS chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim had attempted to personify himself as Guru Gobind Singh Ji after which Shri Akal Takhat Sahib issued a hukamnama against him, since then has not been able to enter or hold function in the state of Punjab.
