Tarn Taran (OCT. 28): Punjab police is reported to have opened fire at Sikhs who were protesting against activities of a Noormehal based controversial sect. According to information gathered by the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) six to eight Sikhs sustained injuries. Injured Sikhs include Damdami Taksal (Ajnala faction) leader Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala. Bhai Amrik Singh reportedly sustained gun-shot injury. The injured Sikhs were admitted in nearby Hospital.
As per information a controversial dera called Divya Jyoti Jagran Sansthan (DJJS) Noormehal was holding a function at village Jodhpur in Tarn Taran and the Sikh organizations were objection to it as the cult preachers use to indulge into misinterpreting the Gurbani (the Sikh Scripture).
As a group of Sikhs led by Damdami Taksal (Ajnala) leader Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala objected to the function of DJJS Noormehal the Punjab police personnel reportedly opened firing on protesting Sikhs.
It is notable that the Punjab police was to ensure the activity of the controversial dera that hit news headlines earlier this year for keeping the dead body of their cult head declaring him to be “spiritually alive but clinically dead”.
Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) sources revealed that one Harjit Singh- a Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) follower, was holding the function of DJJS at village Jodhpur in Tarn Taran district.
It may be recalled that Ashutosh and Dera Noormehal remained at the horns of controversies because of their anti-Sikh activities. Punjab government led by Captain Amrinder Singh had banned Ashutosh’s activities in Punjab after his activities had led to unrest in the State. The ban was however lifted by Punjab government led by Badal-BJP combine.
Badal Government overlooked the apparent threat to law and order situation when Ashutosh announced to hold a public function at Ludhaina on December 5, 2009. Punjab police used excessive force to repress public protests against Ashutosh’s function. Bhai Darshan Singh Lohara was killed in police firing and several others had sustained injuries in this incident.
