Punjab Police want people to hold Thikri Pehra in border villages

Pathankot/ Gurdaspur: As per media reports the Punjab police has told residents of adjoining border district of Pathankot to hold Thikri Pehra (community policing in night) on a regular basis to prevent repeat of incidents like Gurdaspur Attack.

A Times of India (TOI) news report quotes Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal saying: “We are requesting villagers to hold community policing in order to keep a check on anti- social elements or any suspicious activity,” .

Meanwhile, Punjab police has stepped up security and increased vigil in the district to keep a check on any suspicious activity.

“Pathankot is located just about 30 km away from Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district, where on Monday three heavily armed gunmen had attacked passengers in a moving bus and stormed a police station, killing seven persons, including an SP.

Security has also been beefed up around border areas-Narot Jaimal Singh, Bamial and Dhar Kalan, said SSP.

Pathankot SSP further said that security has also been tightened around Ranjit Sagar Dam- a hydroelectric project located here.
