Mohali/ Chandigarh: A video clip showing a Punjab Roadways conductor and few others slapping a youth who was reportedly harassing female passengers has gone viral over social media. The incident reportedly took place on May 25 near Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali (Punjab).
Punjab Roadways sources told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that some female students of Chandigarh University (Gharuan) boarded a Punjab Roadways bus from village Gharuan. A youth in a car started following the bus. He started eve-teasing some of the girls and was passing indecent comments. A girl complained to the bus conductor and urged him to help her.
Sources said that bus conductor Gurpreet Singh and driver Shukhraj Singh stopped the bus and asked the eve-teaser to stop harassing girls. But instead of admitting his mistake eve-teaser started abusing Gurpreet Singh and Sukhraj Singh. This led to a heated argument and subsequent thrashing of eve-teaser by bus conductor, driver and some passengers.
PTC News posts video on Facebook:
A 57 seconds video of the incident went viral on Facebook and YouTube. The video was also posted by PTC News on channel’s official Facebook page. The News channel that was seen as defending Badal family in infamous Moga Orbit Bus Molestation case wrote (on Facebook): “a driver and a conductor of Punjab Roadways are in headlines for so proclaimed act of preventing harassment of a female passengers and teaching a car driver a hard lesson”. “Instead of giving information to the police they thrashed the car driver and even damaged his car” PTC News added.
Praise over social media:
On the other hand majority of people who have posted comments or expressed their “opinion” over the incident have praised the bus conductor and driver. Many are of the view that this incident comes as a clear contrast to Moga molestation case where bus driver and conductor of Orbit bus are facing serious charges for harassing and throwing a girl and her mother out of running bus, as a result the girl was got killed.
Employees see conspiracy to “defame” Punjab Roadways:
Sources in Punjab Roadways told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that there was a general impression amongst employees of Punjab Roadways that PTC News has (allegedly) hatched a controversy to defame Punjab roadways.
“It’s a conspiracy to defame Punjab Roadways in wake of recent Moga incident. The incident took place on May 25 but the video was posted by PTC News on May 27 with sole purpose to defame Punjab Roadways” alleged a Punjab roadways employee.
Sources said that there was pressure on top management of Punjab Roadways to take action against concerned driver and conductor.
