Chandigarh: The Students For Society (SFS) and Students Organisation of India (SOI) are engaged in close contest in Punjab University elections. The polling for Students Council was held earlier today and counting of votes, that began at 2 pm was underway at the time of writing this news.

The SFS candidate for President’s post was leading and SOI candidate was at 2nd place followed by ABVP candidate.
There were 15,300 eligible voters this time with three departments- UIET, UILS and Laws counting for more than five thousand votes.
This year, 162 polling booths have beet set up across all departments in the north and south campuses.
Punjab University is in Chandigarh and students elections are held in PU annually.
It is notable that students elections remain banned in Punjab’s universities and colleges since 1984.
