Rebel MPs refuse to buy HS Phoolka’s arguments for resigning from Aam Aadmi Party

September 20, 2015 | By

Chandigarh/ Patiala: Suspended Aam Aadmi Party MPs, Harinder Singh Khalsa and Dharamvira Gandhi, said that they were not ready to buy the argument given by advocate HS Phoolka that he was resigning from all posts of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as he wanted to give undivided attention to the November 1984 Sikh massacre related cases.

They said that there was much more that has made senior lawyer from resigning form the Aam Aadmi Party.

Notably, HS Phoolka who had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election from Ludhiana constituency on AAP ticket was active in Punjab for some time after Lok Sabha elections. He had taken up some public contacts moves and cycle rallies in Punjab but he was later found “missing” from party activities in Punjab. In one of his recent interviews with an English newspaper, he said maintained that he was helping Arvind Kejriwal on Delhi front therefore he was not making his presence in Punjab unit’s activities.

Political analysts, however, believe that HS Phoolka was sidelined by party’s top brass amidst infighting in AAP’s Punjab unit. Harinder Singh Khalsa, who was in close proximity with HS Phoola, was recently placed under suspension by AAP leadership.

Reacting to HS Phoolka’s resignation form AAP, suspended AAP MP Dharamvira Gandhi said: “He announced his resignation at a stage when there is ideological clash in the party. Leaving the party at this stage could be damaging to all. He has been missing from Punjab politics for six months, not making any political statements over significant issues that have kept the party’s state unit on its toes. “He has even distanced himself from all party activities, including the party’s much-hyped Punjab Joro campaign, which is something beyond my understanding. Only time will tell as to what were the exact reasons for his leaving the party” (quote from 20/09/2015 edn. of The Tribune).

Fatehgarh Sahib MP and another suspended AAP leader Harinder Singh Khalsa said: “Had Phoolka raised his voice along with us when the Delhi leadership was messing up the state unit, we together could have made a difference, but I am glad he has finally understood the true state of things.”
