RSS leader shot at in Jalandhar; ‘Stable’ after 2 of 3 bullets removed

Jalandhar: As per reports Brig Jagdish Gagneja (retd), state vice president of Hindutva outfit Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), was shot at in a busy Jyoti Chowk market here on Saturday evening. His condition is said to be stable after doctors removed two out of three bullets from his body.

“Gagneja is a prominent leader of RSS in Punjab and lives in Deep Nagar, Jalandhar Cantonment”, The Tribune (TT) notes.

“Brigadier Gagneja, who was accompanied by his wife Sudesh, was shot at when he was returning after shopping at Red Cross Market around 9pm. He stopped his Maruti Swift car to answer the call of nature a few metres from his car when the two men with faces covered also brought their motorcycle to a halt and shot at him. They were apparently following the RSS leader. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired three bullets that hit Brigadier Gagneja in the chest and stomach”, notes the Hindustan Times (HT).

“On the directions of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. state Director General of Police Suresh Arora has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under IPS Sahota, ADGP-cum-Director, Bureau of Investigation, to investigate the attack”, notes the Indian Express.

There have been attacks on Hindutva groups leaders in recent past. However, some of the alleged attacks were later found to have been staged by the victim Hindutva leaders themselves.
