Sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib: Bhaniara & others get 3 years jail but released on bail soon after verdict

Ambala, Haryana (May 13, 2013): It is learnt that Ambala district courts today sentenced controversial self-styled godman Piara Singh Bhaniara to 3 years imprisonment, on charges of blasphemy for committing sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
It is notable that soon after the verdict he was released on bail.

Piara Singh Bhaniara is said to be seen writing the controversial ‘Bhawsagar Samunder Granth’ in this picture at his Dera. Earlier, he had denied that he had authored the banned book.

There were a total of 13 accused in this case that was registered in October 2001 at Morinda (Ropar, Punjab) under sections 452, 329, 120-B, 153 and 295-A of IPC, out of which eight were convicted by the trial court few days back.

All were accused of damaging and setting fire to Guru Granth Sahib.In 2001, Bhaniara wrote a book ‘Bhavsagar Granth’ describing his so-called miracles which offended the Sikhs.

His followers had damaged the Sikh scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The case transferred to Ambala special court at the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

As Bhaniara was let off on bail today, the Sikh organizations have expressed dis-satisfaction over the court’s verdict.
