Chandigarh/ Saharanpur (July 31, 2014): As per media reports Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has urged Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to personally intervene to ensure compensation for the Sikh families who were affected by recent violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur town.
In a telephonic conversation, Parkash Singh Badal reportedly urged Mulayam Singh to ensure security for the Sikhs living in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh, whose son Akhilesh Yadav is the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, told him that the state government would do everything to help Sikhs.
Meanwhile a delegation of Sikhs from Saharanpur met Parkash Singh Badal and sought his help for those affected by the violence. The delegation reportedly urged CM Badal to press the Uttar Pradesh government for cancellation of false cases against the members of Sikh community in Saharanpur.
Violence broke out in Saharanpur last-week after a High Court order in a land dispute led to some construction work on the land claimed by a Gurdwara.
Three people were killed and over three dozen people were injured in the violence that followed. Over four dozen vehicles and shops were gutted.
According to local sources shops of Sikhs were specifically targeted by Muslim rioters and more than a dozed shops were completely destroyed in fire.
