Maharashtra: The Mumbai sessions court and judge DW Deshpande has sentenced Salman Khan to five years in jail for the 2002 hit-and-run case.

He will be taken into custody now and the police will decide which jail he will be placed in.

Reports suggest that he may be taken to the Arthur Road jail tonight.

Salman Khan can appeal to the high court but not before he is taken to jail.

The court has also ordered Salman Khan to stop paying compensation to the victim’s family.

The sentence was pronounced by the judge in post lunch session of the court. Earlier in the day the judge was convicted Salman Khan on all counts for which he was charged by the prosecution, including the charge of Culpable Homicide not amounting to murder (section 304 IPC).

“This calls for a 10-yr imprisonment. What do u have to say?” the Judge had asked the defence lawyer after holding Salman Khan guilty in much publicised Hit and Run Case.
