Seminar on “Gur Bilas Patshahi Chheveen” held at Nishan-E-Sikhi, Khadur Sahib

Khadur Sahib, Punjab (May 25, 2013): Sri Guru Angad Dev institute of religious studies at Nishan-E-Sikhi run under the patronage of Baba Sewa Singh Kaar Sewa Wale, organized a seminar on importance of “Gur Bilas Patshahi Chheveen”, a historical Sikh scripture consists of detailed pen portrait and teachings of sixth Guru of the Sikhs Guru Hargobind Sahib ji in form of epic, in which a renowned Sikh scholar Dr. Amarjit Singh, Principal of Guru Kashi Institute of Sikh studies Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda), arrived as main speaker.

While addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh said that imposing ifs and buts on historical scriptures without properly understand them is not a wisdom as happening in the case of “Gur Bilas Patshahi Cheveen”.

“In this scripture, poet try to tell greatness of the Guru and propagate his faith in his own way which should be interpreted in new perspective and cheap propaganda about it must be stopped”, he added. He, also, took on the elements within the Sikhs who were accused of creating baseless controversies over basic principles, rich traditions, historical sources and beliefs of Sikhism.

Bhai Waryam Singh, former Secretary (P) of SGPC and Principle of the Guru Angad Dev Institute, said, “if a nation want to survive forever they must connect with their background. For this, historical sources needed to be given necessary importance.

Young Sikh scholar Prof. Sukhwinder Singh said in this context that it is important for students or research scholar of religious studies to go through the old scriptures like “Gur Bilas Patshahi Cheveen” which is edited by Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, along with Dr. Amarjit Singh.

Piara Singh, Director of the institute and Gursharanjit Singh Mann, Director of Sri Guru Angad Dev Institute of competitions also expressed their views before the audience including students of religious studies.
