Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has criticised the government and the police over persistent incidents of beadbi of Gurbani and other sacred texts in the state.

Condemning the incident of beadbi of Gurbani (gutka) at Bhagta Bhaike village in Bathinda district, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said, “despite increase in such incidents, the government and police administration are sleeping. The police only register a case every time such an incident takes place and the culprits are never identified.”

Some forces are trying to disturb the communal harmony: Avar Singh Makkar

Claiming that on the desecrated pages of Gurbani, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi zindabad” and “RSS zindabad” slogans were written, Avtar Singh Makkar said some forces were definitely trying to disturb the communal harmony in Punjab.

He appealed to the Sikhs to maintain peace and demanding early arrest of the culprits.

SGPC chief also strongly condemned beadbi of Quran at Malerkotla.
