Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avatar Singh Makkar has written a letter to Central Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari urging him to prevent acquisition of land belonging to historic Gurdwara Baba Hazara Singh and Baba Hukam Singh, village Aladinpur in Tarn Taran district.

In his letter SGPC chief said that the Central government has ordered acquisition of 1 Kanal and 16 Marla land to widen NH-15. He said that Gurdwara Baba Hazara Singh and Baba Hukam Singh was built in the memory of martyrs of the Gurdwara Sudhar Lehar.

SGPC chief pointed out that the Gurdwara Sahib is located on the roadside of NH-15 and is built on the land that was proposed to be acquired by the Central government. He said that the Central government’s move to acquire the land belonging to the historic Gurdwara Sahib has triggered a wave of anger amongst the Sikh sangat.

Recalling the incident of outer wall of Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib during the British period, SGPC chief said that the Central government should take appropriate steps diver the Highway in order to avoid acquisition of Gurdwara land.
