Chandigarh (August 4, 2011): The Chief Election Commissioner Gurudwara Elections today announced the election schedule for Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), to be held on September 18.
The dates for filing of nominations would be from today till August 11, a SGPC spokeman said here.
On August 16 the nomination papers will be scrutinised.
The revision orders of scrutinised nomination papers will take place on August 18 and 19.
On August 23, the applications shall be decided by the concerned Deputy Commissioner while August 26 has been fixed for a candidate to withdraw his candidature.
The list of polling stations will be posted on August 29 and 30 while the polls will be held on September 18.
The results will be declared on September 22, the spokesman said.
The 190-member SGPC general polls were due since 2009 as the last elections were held in 2004.
There are more than 53 lakh voters in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. Of the total SGPC members, 170 are elected and 15 are nominated besides five priests of Takhats of Sikhs.
The SGPC has been dominated by the Akalis whereas Congress has indirectly propped up proxies to wrest its control.
