Amritsar, Punjab (July 31, 2012): As per media reports the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Commtitee (SGPC) has suspended Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, vice chancellor of Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, on charges of irregularities on Tuesday. Certain media sections have quoted SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur saying that “J. S. Ahluwalia is suspended on charge of committing various irregularities and charge-sheet would be served to him soon “.
“He however refused to detail the irregularities allegedly committed by Ahluwalia” adds Times of India (TOI).
Bhaur is further said to have told some media sections that decision to remove Ahluwalia was taken in a meeting of Guru Granth Sahib World University Trust held in recent past in Chandigarh. Ahluwalia’s tenure had been controversial as various Sikh bodies including Dal Khalsa, SAD (Panch Pardani) and Damdami Taksal have been seeking his removal.
Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia has a trouble some past. His tenure as VC of Punjabi univeristy Patiala was sorrounded by many controvercies.
In past representatives of Sikh groups including Harpal Singh Cheema, Mohkam Singh and SGPC member Kulbir Singh Barapind had submitted a protest letter addressed to President of SGPC Avtar Singh Makkar, who is also the Chancellor of the University describing Dr Ahluwalia as a controversial personality appointed on the post of vice chancellor .
“He was not fit to occupy esteem post because of his tainted past , he was removed from the post of vice-chancellorship of Punjabi University Patiala on serious charges” said Dal Khalsa spokespersons Kanwarpal Singh.
