Shaheed Satwant Singh’s father Bapu Tarlok Singh passed away; Sanskar on May 10 at Agwan (Gurdaspur)

Amritsar/ Gurdaspur: Bapu Tarlok Singh Ji, father of great Sikh martyr- Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh, passed away this morning at Escorts Fortis Hospital at Amritsar. He was undergoing treatment for heart ailment at that hospital.

Akal Takht Jatehdar Giani Gurbachan Singh and representatives of various other Sikh organizations, including Damdami Takasl, Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) have expressed deep grief over the demise of Bapu Tarlok Singh.

Bapu Tarlok Singh was a tough personality who had bravely faced state oppression after his son, Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh (along with Shaheed Beant Singh) assassinated the then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. Indira Gnadhi was responsible for ordering army attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and dozens other Sikh Gurdwaras in Punjab and adjoining states in June 1984.

Shaheed Beant Singh was martyred by Indira Gandhi’s security on October 31, 1984; but Bhai Satwant Singh had survived the incident. He was sentenced to death and was martyred on January 6, 1989 along with Shaheed Kehar Singh.

Antim Sanskar of Bapu Tarlok Singh on May 10: Antim Sanskar of Bapu Tarlok Singh will be held on May 10 at village Agwan, near Gurdaspur (Punjab).
