Amritsar: In a tribute to the late Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda, a Shaheedi Samagam is scheduled to take place on June 15th at Baba Atal Rai, located near Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda passed away last June under mysterious circumstances in a British hospital, sparking debate surrounding the cause of his death. While pro-Indian state factions on social media have alleged his demise was due to radioactive poisoning, purportedly administered by Indian state agents, a report by Sikh youth groups in the UK also has concluded that his death was unnatural and attributable to the Indian state. He was accorded with the title of Shaheed by the Sikh sangat after this report was made public during Antim Ardas samagam held in the UK in his memory.
The Shaheedi Samagam has been convened by Mata Charanjit Kaur, the mother of Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda, as a commemoration of his life and sacrifice. Representatives from various Sikh organizations are expected to participate in the event.
