Pune, Maharashtra: A Shiv Sena party leader was shot dead in Pimpri Chinchwad area in Pune on Saturday (Oct. 18) night.
According to the police, around 9 p.m. Some unidentified persons barged inside Raju Darshale’s office in Punewale Jambhe Road and opened fired at him. Three bullets were fired at him of which one hit him on his head. He was rushed to Birla Hospital and was declared dead on admission.
The murder, a day before counting of votes for the state elections, sent shock waves among people in the area. Primary investigation by police revealed that unidentified persons barged into Darshale’s office on the Punawale-Jambhe road and opened fire at him from a revolver, around 9 pm, and fled. Police believe that the assailants fired three bullets at Darshale and one of the bullets hit him on the head.
Raju Darshale was the zonal chief of Shiv Sena in Punawale. Police is probing whether it is a case of personal dispute or professional enmity.
The police has increased security in and around Punawale area, as the incident took place on the eve on the counting day.
