Sikh activists observe one day hunger strike to support the cause of Sikh Political Prisoners

Amritsar, Punjab: Sikh activists went on a day’s hunger strike on Dec. 25 to support Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who is on indefinite hunger strike since November 14.

As per reports members of certain organizations held hunger strike from 10am to 3pm on December 25 to extend their support to the cause of Sikh political prisoners.

Members of a Sikh groups named Sikh Youth Federation (Bhindranwale) and International Sikh Organization (ISO) sat on hunger strike at Amritsar.

The demand for release of Sikh political prisoners has started gaining support. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has written letters to the chief ministers of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and West Bengal, as well as the Lt Governor of Delhi and the administrator of the union territory of Chandigarh to release Sikh militants jailed in their respective states on humanitarian grounds as they have completed their jail terms. He has even forwarded the names of the militants and the time they have spent behind bars till date.

The Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh too asked the central government to release those Sikh detainees who have completed the jail sentences awarded to them. He has set January 2 as the deadline for their release.
