Sikh bodies announce march to Delhi on April 18 for Prof. Bhullar

Fatehgarh Sahib (April 14, 2013): In wake of imminent threat of execution of Sikh political prisoner, Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar, various Sikh organizations held an emergency meeting at Jawadi Taksal, Ludhiana and resolved to form a Joint Action Committee (JAC).

The meeting was attended by former MPs S. Simranjit Singh Mann and Dhian Singh Mand (SAD Amritsar), Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, Amrik Singh Isru and Mandhir Singh of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani, S. Jaspal Singh Heiran (Editor of Daily Pehredar) besides representatives of Sant Samaj, Damdami Taksal (Mehta), SAD (Badal), Khalsa Action Committee, AISSF (Peermohammad), Sikh Students Federation and United Khalsa Movement.

The JAC has resolved to take the collective concerns of the Sikhs to the Prime Minister and President of India.

Representatives of the committee informed that more than 7 million signatures have already been collected on a petition seeking clemency for Prof. DPS Bhullar and more than 8,000 village Panchayats and registered social bodies of the state have resolved against execution of Prof. Bhullar.

“A march shall begin from Fatehgarh Sahib to Delhi on April 18 and the petition along with copies of signatures and resolutions shall be handed over to Indian authorities on April 19”, Advo. Harpal Singh Cheema, a member of the JAC informed.

It is notable that all village panchayats of Fatehgarh Sahib besides district presidents of all political parties including SAD (Badal) and Congress have also passed resolutions against execution of Prof. Bhullar.
