Sikh bodies to hold Sikh Genocide 1984 memorial march on 1 November at Jalandhar

Jalandhar/ Ludhaina, Punjab (October 18, 2013): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Dal Khalsa and Akali Dal Panch Pardhani shall be holding a Khalsa March to observe the 29th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide 1984 at Jalandhar on November 01.

The march shall begin from Gurudwara Sahib, Model Town, Jalandhar at around 11 am on Nov. 01. A poster released by the organizers of the march reads: “Dange Nahin, Nasalkushi Sie” – “Not riots, it was Genocide”.

It is notable that this November marks the 29th anniversary of the brutal massacres that were carried under state patronage at various places in India during first week of November 1984 after the murder of then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. These massacres were part of a wider genocidal plan and collectively marks the Sikh genocide 1984.

It is further notable that the perpetrators of the genocide have enjoyed state patronage, impunity and high political seats for past 29 years while the Indian system, including judiciary has suffered grave failure to hold trials or punish these culprits.
