Sikh body, Dal Khalsa, to hold protest sit-ins on Jan 26 against Injustices & Discriminations

Amritsar, Punjab: To protest against Constitutional injustices and discrimination’s, the Dal Khalsa will organize public rallies on Jan 26 at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Kot Isse Khan (Moga).

Party head H S Dhami said that Indian state claims to be a big democratic country in the world and celebrates 26 January as its republic day but its democratic claims are being badly exposed as it continuous to rob Punjab of its river waters by subverting the spirit of Constitution, denies democratic rights and distinct identity to Sikhs, imposes Hindu laws on Sikhs and suppresses legitimate struggle with militarily and police batons, bullets.

He said its regrettable that the present constitution of India denies minorities their democratic rights including right to self-determination as recognized under International Law. “It is a constitution of convenience as the provisions of the document have been used, misused and not used to suit the expedient needs of the rulers from time to time”.

Briefing with the media about the protest sit-ins, he said Indian laws regarding release of indeterminate sentence prisoners are open to free executive interpretation, prevarication and whims and fancies of the present day government at the state and centre. Contrary to DGP’s claim, it’s not the completion of the sentence but the assessment of some secret arm of the state which decides release of political prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment. .

He said the motive of the protest rallies was also to create awareness among masses on all these issues beside registering the protest against injustices.

He further said it’s time for the Indian state to undo the injustice done to its minorities through the Constitution, various laws and regulations

Giving the call to school children and teachers for not becoming part of the 26 January functions, he said for Sikhs there was no constitutional and moral justification to celebrate these functions because there was no sign of true democracy on the ground.

Its pertinent to mention that sacked jathedar of Takhat Damdama Sahib Gaini Balwant Singh Nanadgarh too had given the call for boycott of Jan 26 celebrations till the Sikh identity crisis was not resolved.
