London: The Labour Party of UK is committing to hold an independent public inquiry into the actions of the UK Government around the time of the June 1984 Indian Army attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and the systematic killing of Sikhs in India in November 1984, as well as into restrictions imposed on British Sikhs at the time in the UK.

In a brief written written statement issued in reaction to aforesaid development Bhai Amrik Singh, the Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) said: “We are delighted with the commitment shown by the Labour Party by making the pledge of an independent public inquiry in the manifesto. This puts real pressure on the Conservatives to revisit the issue and acknowledge the need for a fresh independent investigation. We will be increasing legal pressure before the 8 June and the British government will want to avoid the truth being dragged out in the courts.”
