BAKERSFIELD, California: For the sixth year in a row, the Sikh Friends of Bakersfield are serving free meals in Mill Creek Park.
The Sikh community is setting up an outdoor kitchen in the park, near 19th Street, serving food from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week until the Sikh Peace Parade on April 13, for a total of 32 days. The meals are all vegetarian.
“We have been doing this for the last five consecutive years,” Dr. Matab Singh told Eyewitness News. “All are welcome here.”
Singh said he estimates they served more than 42,000 free meals in the past five years.
Singh said everyone is welcome to not only come enjoy a free meal, but to participate in the parade on April 13.
“We invite people from all communities to come and join and walk for the peace – walk for the peace in the world and peace in our society,” he said.
