Sikh Genocide 1984: Rtd IPS Officer Declines To Join SIT, Center Replaces Him With NR Wassan

New Delhi: The Central government on Monday informed the Supreme Court of India (SCI) that ex-IPS officer Rajdeep Singh has refused to be part of a new SIT headed by former Delhi High Court judge SN Dhingra in order to re-investigate 33 years old 186 cases pertaining to Sikh massacre of 1984. Notably these cases have already been investigated multiple times in the past.

It was reported by the media sources that Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand told a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra that former Indian Police Bureau Director General of Police NR Wasan would replace Rajdeep Singh in the new Special Investigation Team (SIT). Serving IPS officer Abhishek Dular is the third member of the SIT.
The SCI bench had on January 11th appointed yet another SIT to probe the cases.
Justice Dhingra was a trial judge when punishments were handed out in 1990s to the henchmen of the political masters who were instrumental in organizing the mass killing of the Sikhs. One among them was accused of the Trilokpuri massacre of 1984. Kishori Lal, dubbed as the ‘butcher of Trilokpuri’, was among those sentenced by him.
It took the bench two years to figure out that the SIT formed by Center to investigate cases related 1984 anti- Sikh violence had not carried out its probe properly in 186 cases. The SCI had taken the decision after perusing the report of a two-judge supervisory panel which scrutinised 241 cases related to the killings in Delhi closed by an earlier SIT formed by the NDA government for re-investigation,notes The Tribune (TT) in its report.
