Amritsar (December 19, 2011): As per media reports certain on December 18, 2011 Sikh intellectuals have suggested to Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh that a volunteer force be constituted for the implementation of edicts.
It is important to note that previously Jathedar had prevented the volunteers’ organizations like Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar Sabha from taking initiatives to implement edicts ensuring respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
“Their suggestions were submitted by a delegation led by former jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Kewal Singh, former secretary of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and representative of Sikh Watch Group Gurbachan Singh Bachan. The delegates included representatives of Akhand Kirtni Jatha, Talmel Panthic Committee, retired Sikh Army officials and professors”, reports Times of India (TOI).
“The Akal Takht always had its own army (Sikh misslis), till the time of jathedar Akali Phoola Singh.”, Bachan is reported to have said here to the reporters on Sunday.
“Today we need a Sikh volunteer force in every city and locality, one which could spend 10% of its time and income for implementation of the Akal Takht’s edicts and in service of community,” he said and added that now the Sikh body has to depend on SGPC task force.
Giani Kewal Singh is reported to have suggested that SGPC members be made answerable and every SGPC member should submit a quarterly report about his work on religious propagation.
It is further reported by media that Giani Gurbachan Singh said the suggestions would be discussed in the next meeting of five Singh Sahibs scheduled to be held on December 22, 2011.
