Sikh leader Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj escapes attack by Badal Dal activists

Bathinda, Punjab: Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj, senior vice president of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani (ADPP) was reportedly attacked and shot at by some persons on May 16. Police has reportedly registered FIR no. 65 of 2015 at police station Nathana against seven persons namely Baljeet Singh (s/o Harban Singh), Baljeet Singh (s/o Mohinder Singh), Nonihal Singh Sarpanch, Jeevan Singh, Niranjan Singh and two unknown/ unidentified persons.

Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj said that he was returning to his residence on his Jeep (around 10:15 pm) when he noticed that around 6-7 persons had blocked the road with a Jeep numbered MXZ 8713. “One of these persons signaled me to stop, but, sensing the possible danger, I did not stop his jeep” said Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj.

“When I crossed then, they shot at me and the bullet hit my Jeep” said Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj.

Though the police has registered a case under sections 307, 148, 149 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of Arms Act, but no one is arrested yet.

Baba Hardeep Singh told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that the accused persons are connected with ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). He said that he was attacked because of political reasons.
