Ludhiana: A court of Additional Session judge here today denied bail to Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in a case dating back to 1995.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s lawyer Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur told the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that the court of Additional sessions judge Atul Kasana refused to grant bail to Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in a case registered under FIR no. 133/1995 u/s 427, 307 (IPC) and sections 3, 4 (Explosives Act). He said that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was arrested on 23 December 1995 in this case and he remains under custody in this case till date.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that earlier Additional Sessions judge Rajesh Kumar had rejected Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s bail plea on 2 March, 2017. The judge had said that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s release may lead to disturbance of peace and law and order.

“This time we had told the court that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was undergoing imprisonment for life in CM Beant Singh execution case and bail in FIR no. 133/1995 won’t lead to his release rather it would merely enable him to apply for parole. We had pointed out that Bhai Hawara’s custody in this case was for more than 22 years and even the death of person on whose complaint the FIR was registered is also recorded in judicial record. Therefore, there was no reason to deny bail in this case”, he added.

Advocate Manjhpur said that they would now move to the High Court for bail in this case.
