London: After holding a protest outside Indian High Commission in Birmingham on December 30, the Federation of Sikh Organizations (FSO – UK) announced to hold protest in London seeking release of Sikh political prisoners.
Hundreds of Sikhs from across the country had gathered in Birmingham on Tuesday (Dec. 30) to stage a peaceful protest seeking release of Sikh political prisoners jailed in India.
The Sikhs stood outside the Indian Consulate building, in the Jewellery Quarter, to highlight the plight of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who is now on his 46th day of a hunger strike.
He has been on hunger strike, consuming only water, since November 14, at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib in Ambala, India.
Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is seeking the release of seven Sikh political prisoners who remain confined in Indian jails despite completing their sentences.
The protesters held banners which read ‘Free Our Defenders, Free All Political Prisoners,’ outside the consulate from 1pm to 3pm.
Similar demonstrations were also held outside the Indian Embassies in New York, San Francisco in the United States and Ottawa in Canada.
