Sikh women seek Akal Takht Jathedar’s intervention for release of Sikh prisoners; Gurbax Singh’s hunger strike continues

Amritsar, Punjab (November 26, 2013): It is learnt that a Jatha of  Sikh women visited Akal Takht Sahib on November 25, 2013 to tender a memorandum to Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh seeking his help to secure release certain Sikh prisoners who were not released by India despite serving full term of their sentences. As per reports Giani Gurbachan Singh was not available to receive the memorandum in person. The memorandum was received by S. Bhupinder Singh Sarpanch on behalf of Giani Gurbachan Singh.

The Jatha of Sikh women, under the banner of “Jatha Mata Bhaag Kaur Ji” included Bibi Pritam Kaur, Bibi Sandeep Kaur Kashtiwal of Shaheed Bhai Dharam Singh Trust and Bibi Manjeet Kaur of Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh Trust and family members of concerned Sikh prisoners.

The memorandum urges Giani Gurbachan Singh to intervene and seek the release of various Sikhs who have been lodged in Indian jails despite having served their sentences.

The memorandum was submitted in view of the continued fast by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa at Gurdwara Amb Sahib at Ajitgarh/Mohali since November 14, 2013.

It is notable that Bhai Gurbax Singh is seeking release of Bhai Gurmit Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lakhwinder Singh (who are confined in Burrail Jail, Chandigarh since 1995), Bhai Lal Singh (who was arrested in 1992 by Gujrat police and is currently confined in Maximum security jail Nabha) and Bhai Gurdip Singh (who is confined in Gurbarg Jail of Karnataka for last 23 years). These persons have serve their terms of sentence but were not being released by respective state governments.
