Sikh Youth UK Leader Deepa Singh Released by West Midlands Police

Birmingham: A day after his arrest and detention, Sikh Youth UK leader Deepa Singh was released on July 4 by West Midlands Police (WMP). The Sikh Youth UK said that Deepa Singh was released without any charge.

In a video message, Deepa Singh said that he and his sister were detained by the police.

He extended thanks to the Sikh sangat for supporting them during their detention.

He said that they were expecting this sort of police action. “We were expecting this since the day we took stand against West Midlands Police”, said he while referring to opposition to the WMP’s raids against Sikhs in 2018.

He termed the arrest and detention as “under hand tactics” of the police and other government and said that UK authorities were influenced by Indian agencies.

He said that the protest and online campaign against harassment tactics of the West Midlands Police and against arrest and detention of Jagtar Singh Johal will continue, and added that their online campaign against West Midlands police won’t stop.
