Sikhs in Germany marked martyrdom day of Bhai Sukha-Jinda

Frankfurt, Germany: Sikh sangat of Germany marked Shaheedi day of Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda at Gurdwara Sikh Center in Frankfurt on October 12. Duo had attained martyrdom on 9 October 1992 and their martyrdom day is marked by the global Sikh Sangat annually.

Sikh sangat of Germany observed Akhand Paath of Guru Granth Sahib ji in the memory of martyrs. A Shaheedi samagam was held on October 12, that was attended by Sikhs from Frankfurt and other parts of Germany.

Representatives of various Sikh organizations including Satnam Singh Babbar, Amarjit Singh Mangupur, Gurdeep Singh Pardesi, Jatinder Bir Singh, Sukhvinder Singh, Jagtar Singh Mahal, Resham Singh Babbar and Gurmit Singh Khunyan paid tributes to Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda.

Bhai Sukha-Jinda were great warriors of the Sikh nation who were sentenced to death by an Indian court for assassinating former Indian army chief Arun Vaidya. Arun Shridhar Vaidhya was chief of Indian army in June 1984 and under his commands the army had launched attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and other Sikh Gurdwaras. The events of June 1984 are regarded as third Ghallughara (holocaust) of the Sikh history. Bhai Sukha-Jinda had punished Vaidya as per Sikh tradition. Due had openly admitted their action during trial and happily accepted the death sentence awarded by the court. They had attained martyrdom on 9 October 1989 in Yerwada jail, Pune. Abdullah, the hangman, in an interview in 2011 reveled that Bhai Sukha-Jinda had raised freedom slogans while going to gallows.
