Leicestershire, UK (January 15, 2014): Recent disclosure of British involvement in planning of armed attack on Sikh holy place Darbar Sahib by Indian army has left many in shock and anger. According to local media reports “Sikhs in Leicestershire reacted with shock and anger today after evidence emerged that the British Government colluded in the notorious massacre at the Golden Temple of Amritsar 30 years ago”.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an investigation into the claims that Margaret Thatcher’s government authorised SAS involvement in the Indian military operation in the Punjab region in 1984.
The papers suggest the British authorities authorised the SAS to work with the Indian Government to plan an attack on Dabar Sahib, known as the Golden Temple of Amritsar to the westerners.
According to Leicester Mercury Raj Mann, spokesman for Leicestershire Sikh Alliance, said: “This was a sacrilegious attack on our most holy shrine”.
“It was an atrocity in which many lives were lost and to learn that the British Government of the time may have been complicit is a great shock”.
“It is outrageous that my parents, as working class people in Britain at the time of the massacre, may have indirectly contributed through their taxes to a genocide”.
“There was an article in the Sunday Times at the time of the massacre which suggested there may have been British involvement, but that was never confirmed”.
“This latest development has certainly shocked the average Sikh, including myself and we want answers to what happened.”
