Chandigarh- The SB403 bill introduced in California that prohibits discrimination based on cast. The reason to introduce this bill to stop the cast discrimination that was happening in the computer and IT industry. There have been incidents of discrimination against the lower castes, especially the Dalit community, by the upper castes of India, especially the Brahmins. Regarding this issue, the state senator Aisha Wahab introduced a bill that will punish those who discriminate in jobs etc. The bill was passed in the Senate by a vote of 34-1 and now it has to go to the Assembly. Before that, there has been tension among the Indians, the Brahmins are against the bill and the Dalit community has tried hard to get it passed.
Sikhs have also stood with Dalits and other minorities of India to get this bill passed. Almost all the big Gurdwaras and organizations of California have come in support of this bill. Bhai Naindeep Singh of Jakara said that in the eyes of Sikh doctrine, we cannot stand with a caste-discriminating nation. He expressed regret that some people had misled some gurdwaras of Yuba City to oppose this bill and brought news to the world that Sikhs are opposing the bill but today all the gurdwaras have come together and supported this bill
