Toronto (June 3, 2011): Canadian Sikh community will be holding a “Truth Rally” on June 10, 2011 during SAD (Badal) and Congress-I leaders’ visit to Toronto. The purpose of the rally is to highlight the ongoing atrocities, torture and killing of Sikhs in India by the SAD-Badal and Congress-I regimes. Sikhs in India still lack fundamental rights, they regularly suffer persecution, torture, beatings and killings at the hands of the police. The truth rally will focus on the recent incidents of torture / killings, cane charge and brutal beating of women by the police in Punjab under the administration of visiting SAD-Badal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal.
According to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), “SAD (Badal) and Congress-I regimes have severely oppressed the fundamental rights and freedom of Sikhs. As of today, several Human Rights Activists have been put behind bars by the government of Sukhbir Singh Badal on trumped up charges in order to muffle the voices against continuing human rights abuses. When it comes to torture, extra judicial killing of Sikhs, human rights violations and denial of fundamental freedoms, Congress-I and SAD (Badal) are found hand in glove and continuously protect each other” added attorney Pannun.
