Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University to start nine new courses

Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab (March 31, 2014): It is learnt that the syndicate of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU) has recently approved a budget of Rs. 72.34 crore with a deficit of Rs. 2.96 crore.

The syndicate granted approval to start nine new courses, including MSc in botany and zoology, B.Tech. civil engineering, MA in history, political science and music vocal, bachelor in physiotherapy, bachelors in physical education, M.Com and B. Architecture.

A special focus was given in the budget for financial year 2014-15 to for research and entrepreneurship development. For this purpose, industrial sheds will be provided to the students on the Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University campus which will act as incubation centres for the students to start their own ventures.

The syndicate also approved the sports policy of the university. Various types of fee concessions, free hostel accommodation, cash prizes and incentives for the outstanding sports persons were approved by the syndicate, to promote the sports culture at the university.

The meeting of the syndicate of the university was held at Sri Kalgidhar Niwas, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University vice-chancellor Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia; Avtar Singh Makkar, president SGPC and the chancellor of the university were present at the meeting.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University syndicate also approved the establishment of a Sikh heritage and cultural centre at the university which will collect and digitize the information regarding historical buildings, palaces, towns established by the Sikh gurus. It will also locate and digitize the historical articles and historical literature.
