Mohali, Punjab (January 08, 2014): Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has reportedly ruled out CBI inquiry into alleged involvement of Punjab cabinet minister Bikram Majithia into global drug racket.

“Should we go for a CBI inquiry because a criminal is speaking against us? If a criminal names the Prime Minister or Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, will you hold an inquiry against them? This is ridiculous. Bhola must prove his allegation against Majithia,” Sukhbir Badal added.

He accused the Congress for politicising the issue ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

It is notable that Jagdish Bhola, prime accused in global drugs racket, has named Bikram Majithia as the patron of drugs smuggling and trade in Majha region of Punjab. Disclosure of Bikram Majithia’s name has created storm in politics of Punjab.

The demand for independent inquiry in to the drugs racket is growing strong and there are reports that the Badal government is looking for some escape path to avoid such an inquiry.

The issue is quite sensitive as well as drugs are affected the society of Punjab, especially the younger generation at the level of epidemic.
