Chandigarh: The internal rift of the Aam Aadmi Party is likely to go more open in coming days. Where as party’s legal wing chief Himmat Singh Shergill criticised sacked state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, AAP’s state RTI wing incharge Sukhpal Singh Khaira has come to Chhotepur’s defence.
Notably, Sucha Singh Chhotepur was removed as party’s state convener on August 26. He now faces AAP’s internal inquiry over allegations of taking cash from a person. Hours before his removal as state chief of the party, Chhotepur had criticised the Central leadership for running the party’s state unit through outsiders.
Defending Chhotepur, Sukhpal Khaira said: “a conspiracy against him could not be ruled out”. He was addressing media persons at Press Club, Jalandhar. He demanded more power for Punjab leaders from the high command.
“Chhotepur’s unceremonious removal has demoralised party volunteers. It’s very unfortunate. I’m very sad as he is the man who has toiled really hard to establish the party,” said Khaira.

“People of Punjab are seeing the AAP as the only remedy for the beleaguered state. I’m also getting a number of mails, calls and messages from the NRIs, who had shown great faith in Kejriwal’s vision for Punjab. They all want more power for Punjab leaders,” he added.

“I just want to tell party supremos (Kejriwal) that please believe in us. We are here to implement your policies only. But the local leaders can’t achieve this goal if they are ignored and not made part of decision-making,” said Khaira.
