Sukhpal Khira Slams Capt. Amarinder Singh Over Farm Debt Waiver ‘Praman Pattars’

Chandigarh: The leader of opposition, Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Thursday criticised Capt. Amarinder Singh and accused him for indulging in cheap political gimmickry by holding functions to glorify absolutely meager, laughable and non productive debt waiver being given to the aggrieved farmers.
In a press statement, Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that the act of Capt. Amarinder Singh to hand over ‘Parmaan Pattar’ to poor needy farmers on the stage during said functions, smacked of cheapness by a feudal, besides rubbing salt on the wounds of debt ridden farmers.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Bholath and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sukhpal Singh Khaira said instead of apologizing to the farmers of Punjab for having lied to them prior to elections promising to write off their entire loan, be it banks or commission agents, Capt. is on the contrary exploiting their indebtedness by holding these functions to distribute meager debt waiver.

He stated that Capt. Amarinder had till now waived off a total of Rs. 485 Crore worth debt including the Rs. 156.12 Crore waived off at Gurdaspur today. This is not even half a percent of the colossal debt of Rs. 1 Lakh Crore. Khaira said it was a shame for Capt. Amarinder that 390 farmers (copy of list attached) and Khet Mazdoor had committed suicide till yesterday, during his tenure of one year. Instead of holding functions and calling singers to celebrate his bogus debt waiver, Capt. should apologize to the families of the 390 farmers who have committed suicide due to his false promises.
AAP leader, who was earlier in the Congress party, said Capt. had started following the cheap political tactics of the senior Badal, who never missed to post his picture on social welfare schemes to gain cheap political mileage. If Badal posted his picture on ‘Atta-Dal’ scheme or the 108 Ambulance, Capt. has begun to put his picture on huge advertisements in print and electronic media to eulogize self at the cost of public exchequer, said Khaira.
Suhpal Singh Khaira said “actions speak louder than words”, if Capt. Amarinder is genuinely concerned about the pitiable plight of debt ridden farmers, he should simply transfer the money into the bank accounts of the farmers, instead of spending Crores of Public exchequer money to gain petty political mileage out of these functions. Khaira said it takes large amount of money to transport 40000-50000 farmers at the function, beside spending money to erect the huge pandaal, engage expensive singers etc.
He chided Capt. Amarinder Singh to implement his pre poll promises of full debt waiver of Rs. 1 Lakh Crore and stop misleading farmers through such political gimmicks.
