Sumedh Saini Case: Eye-witness Records Statement with Investigation Officer

Chandigarh/Mohali: An eye-witness against former DGP Sumedh Saini has recorded her statement with the investigation officer of the Punjab police. Advocate G. K. Mann and her husband were arrested along with deceased Balwant Singh Multani in 1991, when Sumedh Saini was SSP of Chandigarh.

Had Given Statement to CBI Also:

It is notable that G. K. Mann had recorded her statement with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also.

The CBI had investigated the matter in 2007-08 on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The investigation had found that there was enough evidence against Sumedh Saini in Balwant Singh Multani’s enforced disappearance case.

The CBI investigation was invalidated by the SCI in 2011 on technical ground.

Statement Recorded by IO after Registration of Fresh FIR:

A fresh FIR is registered against Sumedh Saini on the complaint of Palwinder Singh Multani, brother of Balwant Singh Multani.

FIR no. 77/2020 is registered at Mataur police station in Mohali district under sections 364, 201, 330, 344, 219 and 120-B of IPC on 6 May 2020.

Were Arrested with Balwant Singh Multani, Eye-Witnessed Brutal Torture:

G. K. Mann, who is a practising lawyer at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was picked up by Chandigarh police along with her husband in December 1991, when the police had arrested Balwant Singh Multani. They were initially kept at sector 11 police station and were later shifted to sector 17 police station.

In a talk with ‘Voice of Khalsa’ (VOK) TV, Advo. G. K. Mann said that she witnessed brutal torture on Balwant Singh Multani in police custody. She maintained that Sumedh Saini did not only commanded torture on Balwant Singh Multani but even himself tortured him.

She said that Balwant Singh Multani was tortured so brutally that he could not even stand for a few seconds.

Implicated in False Case, Acquitted by Court in 2006:

Notably, G. K. Mann and her husband were falsely implicated in a 1991 attack on Sumedh Saini. They were discharged by trial court from TADA charges and were ultimately acquitted of all charges in 2006.

G. K. Mann said that Balwant Singh Multani had studied engineering with her husband for one academic year.

Balwant Singh Multani was Nearly Dead When I Last Saw Him: G. K. Mann

In a video talk with VOK TV G. K. Mann said that Balwant Singh Multani was an innocent good guy who was badly tortured by Sumedh Saini.

She said that Balwant Singh Multani was so badly tortured that he was nearly dead when she had last seen him at sector 17 police station.
