Suspend PTU VC Dr Rajneesh Arora for applying Hindutva monolithic agenda : Dal Khalsa to Governor, Punjab

February 25, 2013 | By

Jalandhar, Punjab (February 25, 2013): In the backdrop of Delhi police registering the FIR against seven Punjab Technical University (PTU) functionaries for cheating students, the Dal Khalsa has asked the Governor and Chancellor of the University to suspend Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajneesh Arora from the post immediately.

Notably, the Delhi police have registered an FIR u/s 406, 420 and 120-B of the IPC against seven PTU officials, including vice-chancellor, for cheating students by charging fees for them for distance education courses without obtaining mandatory approval from the Distance Education Council to run such courses in the national capital.

In a statement, party general secretary Dr Manjinder Singh and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said Dr Arora should be placed under suspension till his name was not cleared by the court from all accusations. He said Arora is mired in the corruption cases and he doesn’t have ‘clean hands’.

They further said PTU was set up to fast-track education and to take advantage of the urgent need for technical hands in the country. For the record, since inception, this University’s approach to education, training, expansion of its base has been dubious.  “Irregularities and malpractices has become the order of the day in the PTU and Dr Arora was solely responsible for ruining the image of the institution”, said they.

They slammed Punjab Chief Minister for his “sift corner” towards Dr Arora and alleged that the latter is a known RSS parcharak wedded to anti-pluralism and Hindutva agenda.

Accusing him for foisting of one language, one religion and monolithic culture in the PTU run colleges especially in the ‘Human Values and Professional Ethics’ special course, they said any course in Ethics in Punjab and India should be plural and inclusive in nature. They reiterated their demand and urged Chancellor to withdraw the present course in its current form and replace it with a well-thought-of subject which advocates a pluralistic way of life.
