Amritsar (November 27, 2009): The Dal Khalsa has urged the Union government to act tough against those including the top brass of the BJP that has been held responsible by the Liberhan Commission for the demolition of Babri Masjid 17 years ago.
In a statement party’s secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh said the government must bring all culprits to book otherwise findings of the commission would have no meaning. Without any follow up action what relevance does the report holds, he questioned.
Commenting on the inclusion of the name of the former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in the list of those who have been held responsible, he said the myth that Vajpayee was the moderate face of the BJP stands shattered. “There is no moderate or hardliner in the BJP”.
While pinning the blame of the Babri Masjid demolition on Hindutva forces, the Dal Khalsa leader said it’s ironic that the sacrilege of religious place not only pushed the country to the brink of communal discord as observed by the Liberhan Commission but also resulted in loss of many innocent human lives at different ocassions.
He said the findings of the Liberhan Commission have further exposed the real and ugly face of the BJP and its likes. The Election Commission of India should take note of BJP’s communal agenda and put ban on it, he argued.
Taking exception for absolving the then Congress leadership, he said the Congress leaders deliberately closed their eyes on the developments at that time to allow the Hindutva forces to have a field day”.
