Smethwick, UK: Thousands of Sikhs took to the streets of Smethwick to join a Nagar Kirtan that was held in wake of Guru Nanank Ji’s Parkash Gurpurb.

The procession of brightly coloured worshippers snaked its way from West Bromwich High Street to the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick.

Eight of Sandwell’s Sikh Gurdwaras took part in the Nagar Kirtan, which marched to the beat of loud drums and was led by a decorated float carrying the Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Coordinator of the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras in Sandwell Parmjit Singh Dhillon, said: “A great deal of work has gone into organising this event and I am grateful for the support of the members of the entire local community Sikh and non-Sikh, all related authorities, including Sandwell Council and West Midlands Police.

“The Nagar Kirtan will be a very joyous occasion and I hope we will be able to celebrate this event with minimum disruption to residents, business owners, services and other road users.”

Following the four-hour procession religious services were held to celebrate the occasion at the Gurdwaras.
