Gurdaspur: Last rites of Bapu Tarlok Singh (father of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh) were today performed as per Sikh tradition at village Agwan near Gurdaspur. Bapu Tarlok Singh had passed away on May 8 at Escort Fortis Hospital, Amritsar.
Besides Sikh sangat in large numbers, representative of several Sikh organizations, including various factions of the Damdami Taksal, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Shiromani Akali Dal also attended the ‘antim sanskar’.
Bapu Tarlok Singh was given salutation with gun-fires. Sikh youth echoed pro-freedom and Khalistan Zindabad slogans.
Sikh Sangat was served langar at Gurudwara Sahib erected in memory of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh at village Agwan.
Bhog of Akhand Path Sahib and Antim Ardas will be held on May 17.
Bapu Tarlok Singh was a tough personality who had bravely faced state oppression after his son, (along with Shaheed Beant Singh) assassinated the then Indian Prime Minister Indra Gandhi on October 31st, 1984. Indra Gandhi was responsible for ordering army attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib and dozens of other Gurudwaras in Punjab and adjoining states in June, 1984.
